How to reach:
By Air: When you land at San Jose International Airport in Costa Rica, which is connected to many places of the World, it will take you about 71 hrs to reach Rio Colorado from the airport. Many modes of transport are available at the airport to reach Rio Colorado like shuttles, shared rides, limos and black cars, SUV services and taxis.
By Local Flights: Nature Air provides smaller planes, which fly to and fro from San Jose to Arenal Volcano area several times a week.
By Train: Railroads in Costa Rica provide suburban commuter trains from San Jose to San Pedro, Latina and Pavas. There are also trains going to Heredia and commercial trains connecting San Jose and Caldera. From the train station, you can go to Arenal Volcano by rental cars, shuttles, taxis or buses.
By Bus: Buses are the most common means of transport in Costa Rica. Many buses from El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama and Nicaragua arrive at and leave from San Jose. There are many bus terminals in San Jose. From any of the bus terminal you arrive at, take a taxi or a rental car to Arenal Volcano.
