Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep Islands

Lakshadweep is the smallest Union Territory of India. Meaning of the word ‘Lakshadweep’ in Malayalam, which is its local language is, ‘Hundred Thousand Islands’. But actually, there are 36 islands, out of which, only 10 are inhabited. This Union Territory has 5 submerged banks, 3 reefs and 12 atolls. The ten inhabited ravishing islands of Lakshadweep are Agatti, Kiltan, Bitra, Minicoy, Kadmat, Andrott, Kalpeni, Chetlat, Amini and Kavaratti.

Every island peacefully sets in an ocean, whose waters are a mixture of astounding colours of excellent sea green/blue and turquoise to the most profound sapphire. The extraordinary appeal of Lakshadweep lies in the way that every island, a minor territory in itself, has existed from time immemorial, with little impact from the outside world.
