Ljubljana is a very delightful city, located at the centre of Slovenia and is also its capital. Near about 10,000 cultural events are organized every year in the city. There are several museums and art galleries out of which Jakopic Pavilion is very famous. A unique style of history is represented by the old castles, mansions and monuments. Cured meats, baked breads and fresh fish are the typical Slovenian cuisine.

Climate: Ljubljana experiences humid subtropical climate. In summers, the sun is scorching hot. Winters are comparatively moderately cold. From December to February, snowfall is common. Spring season showers the blessing on the place and it looks more gorgeous to explore.

Wear light cottons in summers and warm woolens in winters.

Best Time to Visit: Best time to visit depends on your interest. If you want to stroll around in the outdoor, then summer is the best time. Also, you can enjoy various summer festivals. July and August is the peak season, so you must prefer pre reservation to avoid any inconvenience.

Ljubljana Castle

Location: Grajska Planota 1, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Timings: Open in January, February, March and November from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Open in April, May and October from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., December from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

An important of Ljubljana, the Castle is located at the height of 60 meters on the hills, at the city centre. Historically, it was used as a Royal residence and as military houses. Certain halls of the castle are also rented for marriages and ceremonial purposes. There is a unique Watchtower and a splendid Virtual Castle, where historical documentary of the castle is available in different languages. Galerija Rustika offers you traditional handicraft of Slovenia, which are really admirable. If you want to taste Slovenia’s food, then you must visit the restaurant. In summer evenings, various cultural events like theatre shows, concerts and open movies are also organized in the castle.  Guided tours are available every day. Its charming surroundings will make you a fan of this place and will also relax your mind and soul.

Preseren Square

Location: Prešernov trg, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Preseren Square is Ljubljana’s Central Square. It is enclosed by monuments with unique architecture like Salmon Pink Franciscan Church.  A lot of cultural festivals involving Concerts, Protest events and Carnivals of Ljubljana are conducted at this place. A statue of great Slovenian poet, France Preseren is located on the Eastern side of the square. Preseren Monument and Preseren Square were designated as an important cultural monument of Ljubljana in 1991. At the upper end of the Preseren Square, there is Ljubljana’s scale model of bronze. Initially, this place was also present on numerous post cards. This place has a network of streets, where you can watch the local people strolling around. All of the surroundings sum up as a beloved place and it must be visited.

Tivoli Park

Location: 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Timings: Open from morning till 6:00 p.m. in summers and 4:00 p.m. in winters, Sunday closed

The complex of the popular Tivoli Park involves Tivoli Castle, which was constructed in Neo- Classical Style. On the Northern side, there is a Cekin Mansion. There is a National Museum, which exhibits the traditional Slovenia history.  Another delightful site is Tivoli Hall, having the largest Ice Hockey campus area. It is also famous for its Professional Club of Ice Hockey, named HDD Olimpija Ljubljana. If you are fond of fishing, then you can enjoy it in the Tivoli Pond. Other attractions here are Greenhouse Gardens, Rose Gardens and Play Grounds. Near the Castle entrance, there is a bronze sculpture by Zdenko Kalin. All this adds a charm to its scenic beauty and makes it a favorite recreational spot among tourists.

Robba Fountain

Location: Mestni trg, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Timings: 24 hours open

Robba Fountain is located at town square in Ljubljana. It’s another name is ‘The Fountain of the three Carniolan Rivers’. It is one of the most significant Landmark of Ljubljana. In 1751, it was constructed by Francesco Robba - an Italian artist. This fountain consists of three males carrying the jug representing the three river Gods of Carniola I.e. the Krka, The Sava and The Ljubljanica. Carrara marble was used to create the sculpture, whereas local limestone was used for the pool. Shell-like shape of the water pool is very beautiful. No doubt, it is a place of cultural importance.

Central Market

Location: Ljubljana Central Market, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Timings: Of open air market- 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday closed

Of Covered Market- 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Closing times may vary

Central market is the frequently visited place of Ljubljana. In 1931-39, Joze plecnik designed it. On one side, there is a Triple Bridge, whereas Dragon Bridge is on the other side. Its major attractions are the fish market, the dried fruits, the flower market, bakery, dairy and milk stalls.  Also, there are various stalls offering exotic Arts, Herbs and Spices etc. There is a Covered Market also, named after its designer Joze plecnik, a famous Ljubljana artist. You can enjoy local Slovenian fruits and vegetables in this market. For organic food, you must reach the market on Wednesday.
