Mount Aso, Japan
Mount Aso is the largest active volcano in the World. It is located in Aso Kuju National Park in Kumamoto Prefecture, on Kyushu Island.
How to reach:
By Air: Fukuoka International Airport (FUK) is about 144 km away from Mount Aso. The airport offers direct flights from almost all parts of Japan and almost all cities of East Asia.
After landing at the airport, you can go to Mount Aso by shuttle bus or taxi or rental car.
By Train: Aso Station is a railway station, operated by Kyushu Railway Company on the Hohi Main Line. The trains run between Kumamoto and Oita.
Fukuoka is served with many trains by Nishitetsu Railways, Japan Railways (JR) and three subway lines.
From the train station, take a rental car or taxi or bus to reach Mount Aso.
By Bus: Daily night buses are available by Nishitetsu between Fukuoka and Tokyo. From the bus station, go to Mount Aso by rental car, taxi or bus.
By Ferry: Ferries are provided daily by Ocean Tokyu Ferry between Tokyo and Kitakyushu, which is about 204 km away from Mount Aso. From the port, take a taxi, rental car or bus to reach Mount Aso.
Best time to visit: Late spring and early autumn.
