The Haute Route, France-Switzerland
The Haute Route is a walking route in summers and skiing route in winters, which starts mostly from Chamonix in France and ends up in Zermatt in Switzerland.
How to reach:
By Air: The closest major Airport is Geneva Airport, which is about 100 km from Chamonix. Other airports are from Milan, Turin and Lyon. From the airports, many facilities are available to go to the Haute Route like private taxis, mini buses, hiring a car, public buses, airport transfers- both private and shared and shuttle services.
By Train/Road: Various rail and road networks are available to reach Chamonix and then to the Haute Route.
From Zermatt, it is best to return to Chamonix by train, if you have left any luggage at a hotel there. Some Swiss rail stations provide luggage lockers, but no such facility is provided in France.
Best time to visit: June to September.
Professional Service: Trekking guides are available. Self guided tours are also available by companies, which organize all your logistics for your tour.
It is better to make reservations for accommodations when you plan your trip to Haute Route.
