Umba River, Russia
Umba is a long river of 123 km, on the Kola Peninsula, Murmansk Oblast Russia.
How to reach:
By Air: Murmansk International Airport is well connected to many parts of Russia, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The airport is situated near the town of Murmashi in the Southern suburbs of Murmansk, 24 km outside the city centre.
From the airport, take a bus to go to the river Umba, which takes about 5 hrs.
You can also fly to Pulkovo International Airport in St. Petersburg. Then take a flight to Murmansk International Airport or go by train. From there, take a bus to Umba river. Or fly to Domodedovo International Airport or Sheremetyevo International Airport or Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow. Then take a flight or a train to Murmansk. From here, take a bus to Umba River.
By Train: You can easily reach Murmansk from Moscow and St. Petersburg by train which is a cheap option and a pleasurable experience.
By Road: You can reach Murmansk by bus or by car from Finland, Ivalo and Kirkenes, Norway.
By Boat: During summers, the Murmansk Shipping Company provides some trips to and fro from Barentsburg on Svalbard.
Best time to visit: Late May to October.
