Cape Town is a picturesque coastal city of South Africa famous for its pleasant climate, with a combination of mountains and ocean. Beautiful landscapes, not so expensive places to visit, nice infrastructure makes this port town a great tourist place. Famous for its harbor, table mountain and cape point, CapeTown was founded in the year 1652. One of the city’s achievements was being named as the World Design Capital for the year 2014 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design. The Victoria & Alfred Water front, the Two Oceans Aquarium and Robben Island are some of the main attractions of the city for the tourists.

Climate: Mediterranean climate, Summers from November to February are warm and dry requiring only light clothes. Night temperature dips down to at the most 14 degrees Celsius, so keep something for that but not much rain expected. Autumn in March-April are pleasant and the best time to visit. There is not much wind and temperatures are mild, so carry clothes accordingly. Winters from May to August are slightly windy with little rain too. There is sunshine, overcast and little cold too in winters, so you get a taste of all seasons. Pack something for every season if you are visiting Cape Town in winters. The spring in September-October is mild with temperature varying between 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, with soft, crispy sunshine, so you can carry clothes accordingly.

Accessibility

By Air - Cape Town International Airport has both Domestic and International Flights connecting it to major South African cities.

By Train – Cape Town has well connected railway network connecting it to major cities of the country.

By Bus – There are several intercity buses that connect Cape Town to other cities within the country. There are three National Roads, N1, N2 and N3.

By Sea – You can also travel to Cape Town via sea. The major port is the Port of Cape Town offering integrated connectivity.

Two Oceans Aquarium

How to reach: Bus from Cape Town Train Station

The two large and beautiful oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian meet at the southern tip of Africa. The Two Oceans Aquarium is ideally located on the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town offering an incredible opportunity to showcase the diverse marine life of these two oceans. You can even join the feeding team of the aquarium at the feeding time, play with the penguins, take a dive in the aquarium with fishes or go for a boat ride in search of whales and dolphins.

Table Mountain

Timings-: 08:30-18:00

The Cable way is closed during adverse weather conditions

How to reach: Free Shuttle service and Buses (MyCiti) or Taxis can take you to the Lower Cableway Station from where you can take the Cable way

Table Mountain is a flat topped mountain that is popular among tourists. An iconic spot, it is known for its natural beauty and cableway. Visited by millions of tourists from all over the world, it has many surprises to discover and explore. The Devil’s Peak (east) and Lion's Head (west) offer a magnificent panoramic backdrop of the city. Hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and caving are the most popular activities here. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens located on the eastern side has many plants from different areas of the world. Besides the mountains have unique flora and fauna some of which are endemic and a rare sight. You can take The Table Mountain Cableway from the lower cable station on Tafelberg Road to the plateau at the top of the mountain (302 m above sea level).

V&A Waterfront

Timings: 9 am to 9 pm daily.

The v & a waterfront is situated at the middle of the harbor just at the  foot of the table mountain and provides an unforgettable experience with its natural beauty, sea food and wine, nice ambiance, a great mountain view and spectacular scenery. There is an old world charm about the place with the harbor and modern contemporary feel with the shopping mall and fine dining. You could be spoilt for choices in shopping and dining. There are several activities for all including rides for children and more. The helicopter tour or the Yacht tour are added attractions and after all the excitement you can simple explore the museum and enjoy the peace.

Kalk Bay

Kalk Bay is a small fishing village in Cape Town with a harbor that is always buzzing with local fishermen. The village has a cosmopolitan character with bohemian art on one hand and an amazing night life on the other. You can shop for antiques and crafts, watch theatre and also experience fine dining. There are plenty of outdoor activities too with sea fishing, angling, surfing or a visit to the Kalk Bay caves. You can even travel in a Water Taxi to Simon’s Town for thrill and unique travel experience. 

Robben Island

How to reach: Ferry from V&A Waterfront to Robben Island, weather permitting

Robben Island is an island located in Table Bay, nearly .9 km from Cape Town. This 3.3 km long oval shaped island got its name from the Dutch which means “the seal island”. It has a historical importance as the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela was imprisoned here for 18 years. It has been declared as South African National Heritage Site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was used to isolate and impersonate political prisoners. As you step on this island, it unwinds the story of South Aftrica’s tragedy and triumph, giving you a new perspective of life.
