Among the various amazing destinations of the World, there is also the vast salt desert of Bolivia, ‘Salar de Uyuni’, which has the record of the ‘World’s Largest Salt Flat’. This place was the result of various extreme phenomenon of nature over the period of time and as a result, this place is full of minerals and other metals which are found in its soil. There is no place like this, it is the heaven on earth, it is the place where the earth kisses the sky. Who would not like to come here to experience the sheer magic this place creates. Salar De Uyuni is the photographer’s paradise, as there is not a good place than this, to click some magical photographs. Where ever you lay your eyes, there are white salt slabs everywhere and you see some salt pyramids lying here and there. This beautiful place is also relentless and unforgettable, although being a desert. Make sure to take an ample supply of water and other protections like eye gear and sunscreen when you visit this place, as the sun rays reflects so powerfully from the white surface that they have the capability to even blind you.

Laguna Colorada

Location: It is located within Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, in the South-West of the Altiplano of Bolivia, quite close to the border with Chile

Best time to Visit: Summer or early fall.

Visiting Hours: During day time.

This amazing lagoon is a red-colored paradise with blue skies, creating a perfect backdrop. The minerals and red algae in this lagoon give it its typical red color, that it is known for. You can see thousands of red flamingoes having their lunch in this shallow salt lake, which looks amazing. A lot of wild life photographers come here to capture this amazing phenomenon. The water of the shallow lagoon gives a mirror-like image of the mountains and the clouds. Along with this, the geysers and hot springs are an unforgettable experience.

Laguna Verde

Location: It is located behind Licancabur Volcano, Altiplano, Sur Lípez Province, Potosí

Best time: April to September 

Just like Laguna Colarada (red), this Bolivian lagoon is green; as if it is the little sister of the red lake. The emerald color of this lake is its characteristic, which attracts many tourists from around the world to capture its eternal beauty. There is an abundance of minerals and metals which provide the lagoon its typical color that it is famous for, along with the hot springs. Here, the groups of flamingoes look spectacular, along with the backdrop of mountains which shadow into the blue water of Lagoon Verde.

Árbol de Piedra

Location: It is located in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve of Sur Lipez Province, Bolivia, 18 kms North of Laguna Colorada

How to reach: By road or by car

Bolivia is the home to many amazing creations of nature, from red and blue lakes to the unique rock formation of Árbol de Piedra, popularly called the ‘Stone Tree’, which actually looks like a tree made of stone. The researches prove that this stone tree is not man-made. There are other rock formations, but no other can beat this unique and rare design. This natural phenomenon is found in the National Reserve, where a constant wave of harsh desert air has carved an amazing sculpture out of a dead rock over the time. The stone tree is famous among the tourists to get a perfect photograph.

National Mint of Bolivia

Location: Ayacucho S/N, Villa Imperial de Potosí, Bolivia

Timings:  Open all days except Monday from 9:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m.,  2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The National Mint is a major attraction of Potosoi and is one of the finest museums of South America. This is the place where it all started, where the first mint of silver was created. The silver coins made in this mint were of such great quality, that they became world famous. The local area was rich in silver and other minerals and metals and this mint in a way, lead to a great civilization. To control the minting of colonial coins, this mint was built between 1753 and 1773. You can see various exclusive silver items and coins, along with unique historic artifacts in the museum.

Tiwanaku

Location: Tiwanaku Municipality, Bolivia, 72 kms West of La Paz, near the South-Eastern shore of Lake Titicaca

Timings: Open all days from 9:00 a.m.- 4.30 p.m.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the ruins of an ancient city which had such a strong civilization, that it survived all this time. Estimated to be 1500 B.C. old, this site has the remains of a well-settled city, which lost its existence over the time. Many archeologists think that it is a pilgrimage where the natives used to pray. There are some unique rock sculptures and beauteous artifacts, which indicate that this was a fully established community. This place and its amazing archeological specimens will take your mind to the ancient times, as it reflects how the ancient people lived their life.
