Salzburg is the popular city of Austria, which is admired for its divine beauty. It is the hometown of great musician, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Climate: Salzburg experiences oceanic climate of four seasons. Summers are hot and humid with high perspiration level. However, winters are chilly cold. July being the wettest month, experiences too much rainfall.

Pack cotton clothes for summers and heavy woolen clothes for winters.

Best Time to Visit: September to October is the best time to visit Salzburg. For enjoying summer festivals, you must visit here in summers. And to enjoy the colorful lights and the happening crowd on Christmas and New Year Eve, December is the best time.

Mozart's Birthplace

Location: Getreidegasse 9, 5020 Salzburg, Austria

Timings: 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Mozart’s Birthplace is the most popular tourist attraction of Salzburg. On 27th January 1756, World's famous musician, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in house number 9, Getreidegasse in Salzburg. Now, this place is well known as Mozart’s Birthplace. This place houses a Museum, where things related to Mozart are being displayed. Amusing mementos, exclusive portraits and the beautiful violin of young Mozart are displayed here. This building is named ‘Hagenauerhous’. On the second floor, there is an Opera and the Clavichord.

Various achievements of Mozart are also presented in the Museum. Passion and interest of Mozart in music is well reflected by this beautiful Museum. There is no other place where you can get to know about the early life of the genius Mozart.

The Residenzplatz

Location: Residenzpl, 5020 Salzburg, Austria

Timings: Open 24 hours

The Residenzplatz is the largest city square located in the heart of the old town of Salzburg. The largest baroque fountain named ‘Residenzbrunnen’ is located at the centre of the square. This marble fountain was decorated by Italian artists in 1661. You can relax at the splendid Coffee cafes, exclusive boutique shops and charming restaurants. Several concerts, celebrations and open air movies are organized at this place. Being in the city centre, this is the first place from where you can start the journey of exploring the scenic beauty of Salzburg. This 15 meters tall fountain contains stunning figures of dolphins, bold horses and God Atlas bearing dishes.

Hohensalzburg Castle

Location: Mönchsberg 34, 5020 Salzburg, Austria

Timings: Open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and in May to September from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Hohensalzburg Castle is one of the significant landmarks of Salzburg. It retains the title of best preserved and largest among all the other fortresses of Europe. It is around 900 years old and was built in 1077.  The palace complex contains a prison and barracks. Exotic Gold leaf ornamental paintings and Gothic carvings were used to decorate the interior of the palace. This mighty Palace is a great symbol of power and wealth of Prince Bishop. Its purpose was the protection of Prince Bishop from attacks. It is situated on the hillside and overlooks the city, Salzburg as it provides a beautiful panoramic view of the place. Torture instruments, medieval weapons and fortresses life is well displayed in the castle. St. George Church and Salzburg Bull are the other highlights of the castle.

Salzburg Cathedral

Location: Domplatz 1a, 5020 Salzburg

Timings: Open all days of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except Tuesday

Salzburg Cathedral is an Italian Baroque Cathedral, belonging to the 17th century. On its front side, there is a statue of Virgin Mary. It has 79 meters high Twin Towers. It was constructed in 1057. This location is also known for Mozart’s Baptism. The three large doors of the cathedral symbolize hope, love and faith. There is a Cathedral Museum here, having antique collections of objects including Carolingian Cross, Cathedral Treasury Items and Gothic Paintings. There are four marble statues on the western side, depicting Peter, Paul, Rupert and Virgil. This church is built from unique dark grey stone. In the crypt, there are exclusive artifacts and burial vaults.

St Peter’s Abbey

Location: Sankt-Peter-Bezirk 1, 5010 Salzburg, Austria

Timings: Abbey Church of St. Peter is open daily, except Monday from 8 a.m.- Noon and 2:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. St. Peter’s Abbey is one of the oldest monasteries. In 690 A.D., it was founded by St. Rupert. After that, it became archbishop's residence. The burial ground named as St. Peter’s Churchyard is also worth seeing. It is also the home to Austria's oldest library. Exclusive artwork, furniture, paintings, coin cabinets and musical instruments are some of the collections of St. Peter’s Abbey. There is a St Peter’s Fountain in the church’s outer courtyard, which belongs to 1673. At the top of the building, there is a tall Tower which is unique. Your trip to Salzburg is incomplete without a visit to this place.
